Page 5 - Legal Issues
Where Are They Illegal?
The use of a radar detector in a passenger vehicle is legal in all states with the exception of Virginia, Washington D.C. and on military bases.
Radar detectors are illegal, however, in all commercial vehicles weighing over 10,000 pounds.
In Canada, the only three provinces that allow their use are Alberta, British Columbia and Saskatchewan. Many overseas countries also ban their use, such as Portugal, Finland and Spain.
Spectre: Your Arch Rival
In areas that radar detectors are illegal, law enforcement officers use a device called the Spectre. The Spectre is able to detect the use of radar detector in your car or truck. For more information on the Spectre, click here.
Laser Jammers
Laser Jammers are illegal in the states of Nebraska, Minnesota, Utah, California, Oklahoma, Virginia, Colorado, Illinois and Washington DC and are regulated by the Federal Food and Drug Administration.
Radar Jammers
Radar Jammers are illegal in all 50 states. Regulated by the FCC.
Using Laser Jammers in Outlawed States
If you decide to use a laser jammer in one of the states that they are outlawed, consider getting the Blinder M-25/M-45 or the Escort ZR4.
The Blinder and the ZR4 are the only laser jammers made today that give minimal "error codes" to laser enforcement devices.
